For everyone who has been ordering my dubbing... THANK YOU! I really appreciate your orders!
I am a knitter, crocheter, but most I am an alpaca farmer. I also love to fish, though since I started raising alpacas, I devoted a lot of time to the business and hardly did any fun things.... well, until now anyways. Cougars reduced the herd severely over the last 3 years, I shattered my leg after the first two cougar attacks, been stalked several times... so now we have 4 alpacas remaining, lots of fleece to dye, and it's time to slow down and enjoy what God created and nature has to offer! It's time to get back to fishing!
Anyways, I love dyeing fibers into great yarns and when I was trying to sell my alpaca socks at fly fishing show, I was knitting a hat with some yarn I colored about 10 different colors. I had tyers continually ask me to cut off a bit of yarn for them. Then I had a guy start talking to me about dubbing.... I learned what dubbing was, bought a bunch of books from Frank Amato's booth before I left, went home and started dyeing fleece for dubbing! I have had a blast doing it! Learning how to tie flies now... though that is a lot slower than making the dubbing... but I have so much fun trying to match bug colors.
I had decided to just post all the colors I create. If you see something listed here that should be named something else or it's a color that you just don't think would ever sell as dubbing, feel free to let me know! There is never a bad color, if the fish don't like it, a person spinning the fiber into yarn will... I love dyeing colors so much, I will just keep trying. If you see I am missing a certain color you haven't seen or can't find, let me know what it looks like, I will dye it.
Just a thought for some of the color names and photos... I draw a blank naming some colors... I named one Bright Barbie... go figure, it never sold on ebay! Changed it to Bright Pink and away it went. If you see a corny name on anything, please let me know, I am very open to adjusting it. I have been accused of having too many 'girlie' names... ha ha ha I was selling the alpaca dubbing at the Portland Sportsman Show a few years ago, my almost-husband watched the booth while I ran off for something, came back to him and a guy renaming my colors. One ended up being Pink Lady, he said it matched it exactly. Darrin was relieved that some of these colors were finally getting more appropriate names on them rather than Hot Lips, Bright Barbie, Dora Purple, Red Petunia's....
Also, alpaca has a natural luster. When I dye it, sometimes the photo's come out looking like it's sparkly, it's just the flash on the camera and the natural luster/sheen to the fleece.
The socks are are awesome under waders, by the way... super soft, not itchy at all and very warm!! I will post those in the next couple days after I get some photos of them.
